Banknote Change in Nepal

The Nepalese government has decided to take all banknotes that feature portraits of former kings out of circulation. These banknote will not be considered legal tender by mid-2011.

New Banknote for Nigeria

It has been announced that the African Nation of Nigeria will be releasing a new 50 Naira note to commemorate the 50 years of Independence. The new banknote is due to be released on September 29, 2010.

New Caledonia

On August 18,2010 New Caledonia elected to have new designs on their banknotes as well as come out with a new flag and national anthem. These choices were elected under the Noumea Accords.

New Banknote Release: Chile 2000 Pesos

It has been announced that on October 6 the new 2000 Peso banknote will be released, with no further details given. No information upon this banknote has been released, nor images.

Name Change

The bank of Azerbaijan has gone through a name change (from Azerbaycan Milli Banki to Azerbaycan Merkezi Banki). With this change new banknotes will be printed featuring the new name of the bank. As "Banknote News" reported so far the 1 Manat denomination banknote has been put into production with the rest of the series following. Images and more info is requested.

Most Wanted: Armenia 100,000 Drams

Once I saw this banknote I knew it's a must want in my collection, that is until I saw exchange rate to be able to obtain it. This beautiful 100,000 Dram Armenian banknote is beautifully colored and holds much history behind it. The front of this picture has the image of Abgarus V of Edesa. Abgarus V was a historical ruler of the kingdom of Osroene (modern day Armenia.)

De La Rue Boss Quits

De La Rue is the company that prints banknotes for over 150 different countries, it wasn't until recently that the company came under fire for the poor paper quality they were using to print new banknotes. A large investigation grew which finally led CEO James Hussey to quit.

De La Rue said investigations into the quality of the paper were still being conducted. However, a well-informed source in the village claimed the faults had occurred because cutbacks were made in the quality control department.

New Banknotes for Sri Lanka

It is reported that in March 2011 we should expecting a new series of banknotes from Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). It was reported that in 2009 that there was a new series in the works.

New Banknotes Added

I received a pleasent gift in the mail today from a good friend (and his daughter) from Malaysia. To my surprise it was a (P40a)1996 Malaysian 2 Ringgit banknote. The 2 Ringgit banknote is no longer used in Malaysia and has gone on to become a collectors 'note.



On the reverse of the banknote is the Kuala Lumpur Tower and th MEASAT satellite.

New Banknote for Mauritania

The Central Bank of Mauritania released a brand new 5000 Ouguiya banknote on August 8, 2010. Formerly the largest banknote denomination available was 2000 Ouguiya. The reason for the new banknote was the need to help with the currency inflation currently happening within the African Nation.

New Banknotes for Brazil: Update

Over the weekend it was reported that the new 50 and 100 Reals banknotes were beginning to be printed. These banknotes are due to be released to the public in the upcoming months. It is also believed that lower denomination banknotes will be issued at some point in 2012.

New Banknotes for Gambia

Gambia has released new banknotes which bear the date of "August 2, 2010." The new notes (25, 50, 100 Dalasis) all look the same as the previous issued notes. The 100 Dalasis 'note now has a holographic patch and all three note bear new signatures (Governor Momodou B. Saho and First Deputy Governor Basirus A. O. Njai)

Vanuatu Banknote Update

The first images of the new Vanuatu polymer banknote has surfaced on the web. This image is courtesy of Vanuatu Daily News. The design & color of this banknote are something we would expect from an Oceanic Island. Some of the things that stuck out to me upon seeing this banknote is the sea shell shaped plastic window, and the image of Vanuatu Islands on the side of the banknote.
